Not My Fault by Cath Howe

After an accident on a playground roundabout, sisters Rose and Maya barely talk and never nicely.

Maya went off the tracks behaving badly after her leg was injured severely caused by Rose.

Rose loves gymnastics to escape home where Maya is a black cloud.

On a school trip away, Maya's moods and actions towards her sister become even more extreme and an act of rebellion see's her facing up to her reality that her leg is causing her pain again for a reason as well as Rose coming to realise what matters, speaking up about how her sister makes her feel and what she really wants to do in life, not just be biased around by her so called  best friend...

There's friendship drama, missing hamsters and tense times at sea as the group gets into danger...

This was a great book detailing how a sibling fight can be very extreme and we see from both girls how they each feel from the split POV which was great and both girls were well developed characters and we could see how the event and their points of view fitted in and how they felt to everything said about them.

Katy by Jacqueline Wilson

Katy is the eldest of her siblings as she lives with her dad and step mum Izzie and the assortment of children they already had and had together from Katy, Elsie, Clover, Phil, Dorry, Jonnie and Cecy, her best friend too who's practically like another sister.

Usually the one to make up games and entertain her siblings, she often winds up in trouble somehow. But all the girls and boys are on their best behaviour when their dad's favourite ex patient comes to visit, Helen has rheumatoid arthritis and is in a wheelchair but hasn't let it hold her back as she's a highly successful academic becoming a doctor herself!

After Katy isn't allowed to have her skateboard back but goes behind her step mum's back to go out anyway, she tries to concoct a swing from a tree beach with a single piece of tied rope.

However, Katie asked to a changed life after her worried neighbour finds her and she gets whisked away to hospital where she remains for weeks of her school holiday. Once a life loving eleven year old looking forward to the summer holiday before secondary school starts, she hates the idea her life will now be wheelchair bound and limited.

Over the course of being in hospital, she has a kind nurse Jasmine, while she makes friends eventually with a boy called Dexter whom is a bit goth/emo/alternative and lives to draw graphic comic strips featuring baddies and the from reaper. They both relate as similar things have happened to them only as Dexter gets dumped by his girlfriend and Katy hates that her family get to go on holiday without her, or her dad as he's a doctor and choses to stay to see Katy, the pair keep up visiting and cheering each other up.

We then see Katy struggle adapting the life at home and school with Cecy as she faces life in a wheelchair and all it brings while she discovers it doesn't change her true character as she fits back in with her family and friends.

The book features many life changing moments for Katy from starting back at school and needing them to make changes to accommodate her as she has had to make for her life. The topic of everyday girl typical worries about weight come up as Katy wishes to just be able to take part normally in sport like the other students as well as the Paralympic games even being featured to inspire her. It puts day to day worries into perspective as Katy realises her life is changed forever and captures a true look at disability in children/teens and how it affects them.

Not If I See You First by Eric Lindstrom

Parker is a blind girl who's navigating her life after her dad's death, this caused her aunt and her family to move in with her to help out after her mum caused the car crash which blinded her and she's now also gone.

So when her friends and especially Sarah her very best friend find out that Scott is hanging around their school again Parker finds herself on edge after what she felt for him before he caused an incident.

Meanwhile she's happy with Jason, another guy at school that she also likes and she met recently when shopping and he helped her. He also supports her for her running passion which he also has a share of.

I did enjoy this book but lost interest as Scott came into it more and it wasn't clear what the heck was happening with him and Parker. It is worth a read as Parker is a great strong character with being blind and loving to run not letting her passions get lost.

A Step Towards Falling by Cammie McGovern

Emily and Lucas both witnessed something, an attack on another student, Belinda in high school, at a football game where Lucas was playing. Neither got help, Emily believed Lucas would/did.

Mary runs a group for disabled students where Emily and Lucas both have to go and help due to their actions and not helping when they knew a rape attempt was happening and thought of the consequences only on them.

Belinda lives with her depressed mum and her nan. She hasn't been able to leave the house much if at all and instead watches Pride and Prejudice the TV series over and over obsessed with Colin Firth's character so much she believes he talks to her.

As Belinda starts to come back to school, Lucas and Emily want to help her and decide to put on a play as Belinda used to be in plays and loved them. They organize a Pride and Prejudice performance which ultimately brings together Lucas and Emily and Anthony and Belinda as two couples as well as friends.

A book that displays cowardice and strength with friendship meshes between disabled and non disabled individuals. The book shows how we can become strong and better from having people in our lives.
