Alexander turns up from a building company set to take over under orders from his dad. However he tries to help out Sophie after learning of her debts and later her parents deaths. As he gets to work building shelves for her the pair come to grow close talking about their lives and for Alex his love of building work his parents blatantly disapprove of.
However as Sophie refuses to leave and Alex helps her and gets to know the locals even though Natalie has agreed to sell and move for a better life he realises there's a way he could help preserve their community in its natural style and so he tries to persuade his father but after Sophie realises he knows about her money woes after she confided only about her ex boyfriend though.
As Alex heads back to London and Sophie too is left heartbroken the pair must find their way to come back together again and for the good of Herring Cove and its future without a resort destroying the natural beauty there the pair must fight his parents to achieve their mutual dream...
I was engrossed in this book and read it in one evening I was so gripped in the plot and not just because of the handsome Alex who sweeps Sophie off her feet eventually! The drama was always related to the plot developing and it did so at a steady pace instead of rushing to the point and then seeing the repercussions where as we could've seen a very different story play out indeed. It was warm, romantic and had some moments you wishes you loved there too! The ending was beautiful but you'll have to read it for yourself to find out why!
