The Ice Garden by Guy Jones

Jess is alergic to the sun, sick of being covered up, of hospitals and doctors she waits till night when she sneaks out without her skin protection on.

At the hospital she meets Davey, a boy in a deep coma and she writes him stories which she reads to him in the hope he can hear her.

Playing in the local park in the dead of night, suddenly scared and rightly so she goes through a hedge where she stumbles upon the Ice Garden. There she discovers Owen, a boy made of ice and when they exchange token gifts, Jess finds she can be in the sun again, however magical cures can't last and when a choice must be made, it is obvious to Jess she can't escape herself and her condition forever...

Over all we have to wonder whether Davey remembers her or her stories if he ever wakes after crashing in the hospital too...

The book features a lot of magical realism, Jess and her condition is a real issue the book raises awareness of as it is a true rate condition that some people suffer with terribly. The idea of storytelling saving lives was a nice idea and allowed Jess an adventure and bought her some happiness after she's sick of tests at the hospital and the usual day to day life she has.

Under Rose Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall

Living with her mum and being fully dependent on her as she suffers with agoraphobia and has panic attacks as well as OCD traits, Norah finds herself living alone while her mum was supposed to go away on a work trip, but got involved in a car accident.

This means she has to face living alone until the hospital release her mum. Keeping her entertained and distracted is the new next door neighbour Luke. They have a few interactions but she feels uncomfortable knowing he will be hosting a party which means people who knew her before she had her brain tumor and everything following to now. Her therapist, Dr Reeves visits whilst her mum is away and tries to help her with her mental health issues and support her.

A true look at a life with a mixture of mental illnesses whilst a romance blossomed but didn't deter from the main storyline.

Under My Skin by Laura Diamond

Adam has heart failure and needs a transplant, a British boy in America, he has travelled a long way for a second chance at life.
He hides his pains and comes across as depressed to his parents.

Darby and Daniel are twins until an argument sees Daniel pass away and his organs harvested and given to donor of which I'm sure you can guess.

Through their shared therapist, slowly Darby and Adam come to realise that as they grow closer, Dr Shaw has made each of them realise just who's heart has saved Daniel despite his apparent suicide wish after an accident occurs.

Daniel's medication also starts to fault and his heart reacts meanwhile Darby's home life is tense and emotionally draining for her to cope with, so maybe Adam is worth dreaming of still?

It was such a good read about two people who meet partially by chance in the hospital and find they're impacted by events which evolved there and through sharing doctors, therapist etc.
I do think the apparent psychosis that Adam suffers at a time in the book could've been better explained as I felt it suddenly shifted away from his believing Dr Shaw was deliberately trying to harm him too fast.

Suicide Notes by Michael Thomas Ford

This book focuses on the life of fifteen year old Jeff, he meets Sadie within the hospital. Sadie tried to commit suicide before being admitted and does have some disturbing things to say at times, however she made Jeff feel happier at having a friend.

A new admission of a young jock guy, Ranken makes Jeff finally face up to the reason he tried to really kill himself and face the fact that *spoiler* he likes guys.

The reasons behind his admission and his suicide attempt which landed him in there become clear and obvious that he felt he would be judged and outcast, especially by his friend, Amy on the outside as he made an embarrassingly unrequited pass at her boyfriend.

The book was good and tackled two delicate topics in one very well, I would have liked to have seen how Amy felt when Jeff came out from treatment however.
