Secret Suffragette by Barbara Mitchelhill

When close to her family home the suffragettes appear fighting for women's rights, Daisy knows she's interested in joining and helping out even though folk around don't like them, mostly the men who feel like her dad to her mum that they won't and should control their wives.

However after her mum loses her job she gets up the fight to campaign harder despite the consequences after trying to get better working conditions which angers her husband and forces him to throw out their mum and move in their horrible auntie.

Daisy sticks by her mum and helps her right for women's rights despite being so young and shocked by the actions she sees the women doing around her. A courageous young girl, Daisy is a good role model of a strong girl who knows what she believes in and it was a thrilling read about an interesting time in history.

The Weight Of A Thousand Feathers by Brian Conaghan

Bobby is a boy with a lot on his mind, getting his mum her pills and aiding her around their home as well as looking after his brother, Danny a few years younger than his seventeen, too.
He has a good friend in Bel whom fancies him but nonetheless stays his best friend and helps watch over his mum while he goes to young carer meetings.

It's at the young carer meetings he has the chance of a break, a short holiday whilst also making friends with other young careers including Lou a boy he has strong feelings towards as he doesn't romantically like Bel but Lou.

At home he watches his mum deteriorate more into her illness day by day and it saddens him, upsets and frustrates his mum that she can't care for her children but that they have to role reverse and care for her. As her MS starts to cause more and more bodily failures, she asks her Bobby to end her life as is worsening quicker and wishes for no more suffering.

Meanwhile his friend Lou becomes a rock for him as well as his poetry to release his emotions and he finds out secrets can make or break a bond as truths get shared.

This is a heartbreakingly beautiful story. I picked this book as I know an MS sufferer and seen her struggles develop year after year since her diagnosis. I personally have the pain condition fibromyalgia and osteoporosis and spend days in a different but not dissimilar completely status of pain. Sharing tales of suffering and hardship on family members like in this book is key to letting others know they can reach out no matter how hard it may seem, someone will get it, guaranteed. The struggles the family face are alike so many real life experiences and the moral right or wrong of what their mum asks for is often talked about and debated.

Overall, this book has many fun moments that are sweet between mum and son but mostly is a heartbreaker.

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

Stella is an autistic econometrist, whilst her mum believes she works too hard and should find a partner, Stella craves closeness to someone and so chooses an escort from a company to help her and teach her how to be good at relationships and sex.

As Michael helps Stella, he refuses to take her pay despite his family being plagued by money worries at lot due to his mother's ill health as she has cancer.

The pair have a sizzling chemistry and it's a very sex heavy book, obviously due to the subject nature of the book! The couple were amazing, so different but that's what worked as Michael was so understanding where Stella felt insecure and unsure. I liked that Michael was a clothing designer too as it showed he took care of his craft and was passionate about something just like Stella and her numbers and figures. A great contrasting pair with a relationship that is almost dreamlike sounding how it comes about.

Watching You by Lisa Jewell

Joey and Alfie are newlyweds, moving in to Joey's brother's and sister in-laws as they resettle back in Bristol. However, headteacher Tom an older man is the sight of Joey's sudden new found obsession he lives two doors down with his wife and son.

There's Freddie, Tom's son and who watches Joey whilst taking photographs of Jenna and others whom he's watched...

Then Jenna who's friends and her laugh over Tom and finding him attractive especially Bess while her mum remembers him despite her issues...

You won't see some of it coming at all, for the twist ending I managed to guess the guilty party at about twenty five percent left of the book due to the various action happening. The characters each had something doubtable about them for instance their actions from watching to photograph taking!

Overall it was a very well plotted book and for a while you consider every character guilty of something, it's a riveting read, perfect for any fan of thrillers and murder mystery books.

Girl Detatched by Manuela Salva

Aleksandra is a sixteen year old who's just lost her beloved gran and is left to live with her mum, Megan is her neighbour whom helps her by introducing her to Camilla, Dani and Kayley as well as Ruben.

Going from shy stutter sufferer though she doesn't on stage though her beloved theatre is closing down. But through it all Ruben is her new boyfriend whom she adores and as her first, is clueless to see the world she's sinking in to.

While Megan leads her into a dangerous group as girls disappear with the other guys, get bought presents of clothing and make-up and Aleks feels uncomfortable as Ruben makes her take her clothes off by drugging her with ecstasy and giving her alcohol until she can't stay awake.

As she changes her look, is failing school and was raped as she horrifically recalls her theatre friends gather her up and confront and threaten the bullying rapist and friends though they unearth a video, from that night Aleks was with them at a party.

Then they decide to get their own back and revenge on Ruben and his twisted group of so called friends, a court battle ahead with Megan finally an ally, sisters against the cruel monsters.

The book was intense, emotional turmoil for such a young teen to have to face along with so many other life changes that should be happy instead are sour after falling into the wrong crowd. A look into a life we overlook in young adult fiction as I've never read a book about this subject before. Rape and prostitution is a harrowing thing for anyone to face and go through, unimaginable but the author dealt with the subject covering all elements in a hopeful way of justice being served.
