The Forgotten Sister by Caroline Bond

Erin is the youngest sister, Cassie is seventeen dating Ryan a guy her dad can't stand until things go wrong and he can't help his daughter as she shuts herself off withdrawing from the family.

So when Cassie starts to question her adoption, life starts to change dramatically with her mood worsening and her parents being pushed away as she posts online an appeal for information about her adoption and gets a reply from Leah, her sister, supposedly.

Then Tom and Grace get a phone call that day their daughter has been in an accident months and then they realise their family could be in danger, they know Leah and a lot of truths about her come to light, she is 'damaged' from her childhood and they couldn't help her...

Full of intrigue this is a book that will leave you questioning and guessing parts of the plot until the very end. I have to say I didn't love the end I would've liked to see a different outcome maybe darker even but that's just me you'll have to read it to judge for yourself! However I liked the character variation for the family being a mix race family and the use of adoption too as in adult fiction books it's rarely written about, the sisters had a good realistic relationship in the family and Leah was an understandable character when you learn of her past. I really loved the book and am going to eagerly await more from Caroline.

Cream Buns and Crime by Robin Stevens

This book is full of Daisy and Hazel's tips to sleuthing and Crime solving as well as recommendations for other murder mystery books, inspiring detectives and short mini mysteries which they've solved in the past from their first mystery to their friends at the boy's school whom are also detectives.

It's a great book to begin with reading to get into the series I feel and makes more sense to introduce you to Hazel and Daisy's detective world more so than being a late comer to the series. However I do prefer full length mysteries much more and can't wait for the next one but this did have mini stories in it to give you a taster of the series if you've never picked it one of them up before!

Death In The Spotlight by Robin Stevens

Daisy and Hazel are back this time in London with Daisy's uncle and find themselves starring in a real London theatre play where of course death strikes once again...

Being cast in Romeo and Juliet, meeting up again with the Junior Pinkertons and a dreadful flu striking the cast down as well as murders behind and in the spotlight it's a more widespread murder mystery case as we see the girls investigate in London.

With Daisy realising how she feels with her sexuality and a fellow cast member, Simon being not only American but gay as well, it raises the big topic of how back years ago it was illegal and forbidden by law and was a prison sentence!

The girls are growing up and it's delightful to see their maturing through the novels and feel like we're growing with them! The mystery wasn't my favourite of the series but it was still a tale full of twists and turns to surprise you nonetheless and the murderer wasn't a simple guess this time either!

The Rules Of Seeing by Joe Heap

Kate is married to Tony an abusive man who leads her to meet Nova in the hospital.

Nova has just had an operation to give her some restored sight after being born blind and finally she can see, she has to learn to live all over again hence the Rules of Seeing that she creates and also with the help of Kate as they meet up again months later...

Throughout the book we see how Nova saves Kate and Kate saves Nova from abusive Tony stalking them and her harsh mother vanishing her Nova becomes Kate's lifeline and Nova finds with Kate she can navigate new and exciting things from learning colours, shapes, seek the sky, Paris and people this couple become a proper pair got to like a jigsaw in love as they become one despite all the efforts Tony goes to as he progressively becomes more psycho from stalking them to the thrilling ending which took me by such surprise I got goosebumps reading it.

This book was captivating and I honestly loved the characters, concept and the thriller element in this book!

I liked the fact that Kate seems to be bisexual as she leaves Tony for Nova but of course we don't ever need to label sexuality I liked the fact that Nova was A bubbly character as Kate was more serious they really balanced each other out and the fact the book was set in months over years shows how their connection grew more and more especially as we read from split character perspectives.

A must read book of 2019!

The Boy Who Lied by Kim Slater

When Ed loses his memory after playing in the park with his brother, Sam who has learning difficulties and has downs syndrome he can't help the police to find his brother as he suffers trying to recover his lost memories.

With the press hounding their door, his depressed mum, having no money or food, his dad in prison from doing fraud with a business partner which leads to a good plot twist at the end to do with their friend's Augustine and Charlie who live with them during this hard time...

They search the area from the park, den and streets of Nottingham especially with the help of the new  neighbours next door Fallon and her dad who help him visit his dad in prison and also notice a red car coming and going at night and when they follow it make a stunning revelation...

I always love Kim's mystery books especially being set down the road in Nottingham not far from me. I enjoyed this one though did predict what would happen not perfectly but who would be found guilty yes upon being introduced to the characters. I liked the difference in the two brothers and how Ed has to recover himself despite his family not believing him he doesn't give up getting to his beloved brother no matter how long it took. I hated Charlie as you should the way he spoke and his manner was horrible. You will enjoy this quick mystery I'm sure it's like a teenage Midsummer Murder though no murder just mystery instead.

The Home by Karen Osman

In this book we meet successful solicitor Angela whom grew up in care until she was fourteen and got adopted by James and Rosemary.

Her foster life was harsh and some of the things you read in here are unimaginable to have to face at her young age back then

She holds resentment towards her birth mother so when James asks her to find her birth mum as he's dealing with cancer and wants to be there to support her she's thrown but decides it's time and so sets things in motion after finding a support group who helps trace birth parents.

However as the story goes on Evelyn her birth mum faces trouble after her noisy neighbours get murdered and things suddenly become clearer as Angela discovers her parents are all connected in some way...

The book was a great chilling thriller that wasn't an easy to see coming plot twist at all. There was a nice hold up of tension and suspicion that made the climactic ending play out very well especially with a fantastic twist to the story, trust me you don't want to miss this book!

The Rumour by Lesley Kara

However her journalist partner Michael moves back in and is intrigued in the mystery wanting to write about Sally's life and how she's coping now after being locked away then having ever changing identities over the years.

Only when they discover who Sally is and where she is, everything comes crashing down...

This book was blooming amazing, the mystery never stops at all and you'll have reason to suspect everyone Joanne comes into contact with or at least I know I did! The killer was a surprise in this case though it shows how you can think you know someone and have it turn out you don't really!

Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver

Dara and Nick are sisters who've been torn apart by a tragic traffic accident and a broken friendship.

As Nick struggles to accept what happened and what she truly lost, all is not as it seems as a nine year old girl goes missing mysteriously and the action grips us in a psychological twister of a book!

As Nick tries to cope with moving back in with her mum, you won't expect the end twist and I didn't at all but so much did and didn't make sense due to it looking back on what I read. However, it was an amazing twist and worked okay but the missing girl part could be been so much more than we got! It kept me reading but overall I can only keep thinking of more to change and add.

Watching You by Lisa Jewell

Joey and Alfie are newlyweds, moving in to Joey's brother's and sister in-laws as they resettle back in Bristol. However, headteacher Tom an older man is the sight of Joey's sudden new found obsession he lives two doors down with his wife and son.

There's Freddie, Tom's son and who watches Joey whilst taking photographs of Jenna and others whom he's watched...

Then Jenna who's friends and her laugh over Tom and finding him attractive especially Bess while her mum remembers him despite her issues...

You won't see some of it coming at all, for the twist ending I managed to guess the guilty party at about twenty five percent left of the book due to the various action happening. The characters each had something doubtable about them for instance their actions from watching to photograph taking!

Overall it was a very well plotted book and for a while you consider every character guilty of something, it's a riveting read, perfect for any fan of thrillers and murder mystery books.

Eden Summer by Liz Flanagan

Both suffered and are suffering through their traumas and we are how much the girls rely on each other for support

Liam Eden's boyfriend and Jess shared a kiss but it's more while Eden went off with a guy called Tyler whom she trusted with Her shocking secret discovery about her family and sister.

Set over a day whilst Jess tries to find Eden, we see the emotional toll and distraught it causes them all from parents to friends and strangers. Grief and pain is sewn into each page which grips you and pulls you into the story more and more. It was a great mystery thriller as well as featuring mental health battles too a lot is covered and it's a great YA read!

Lying About Last Summer by Sue Watson

Skye witnessed her sister Luisa being murdered poolside at their old house last summer. This summer, she is returning to a nearby grief activity camp for a week to try and move on and accept her sister's death.

All she knows is her sister was in a relationship with Nico, a bad guy and a drug user whom didn't seem right for her unlike their old farm shop working friend Toby.

At the camp, she discovers creepy Joe who seems over friendly and too controlling who's girlfriend committed suicide. Meanwhile she befriends Brandon, Fay and Danielle.

As time wears on, Skye starts to receive messages supposedly from Luisa on their messaging app only something somethings seems off as Skye realises it can't truly be her, can it?

So Skye sets off investigating all those at camp with her, from drug takers and old friends, before a final explosive near death this book may start slowly, but the investigation culminates in a satisfying way for sure as a minor plot also overtakes the original one. I found by the end I was thoroughly satisfied with a nice quick mystery thriller and Sue has a couple more you should check out as well if you like this one!

Bad Girls With Perfect Faces by Lynn Weingarten

Xavier and Sasha are best friends, Sasha fancies him though while he's recovering from a breakup with his wild ex Ivy.

Ivy is a crazy whirlwind of a character as she uses drugs, drinks, parties hard and disappears sometimes for days on end.

So when she tries it on again with Xavier, Sasha is jealous.

Sashas jealousy leads her to create an online pseudonym of Jake, in order to hopefully catch Ivy out and prove she doesn't want to be in a relationship ever again with Xavier as Sasha knows it's just a matter of time until she will break his heart again.

However, as Sasha leads Ivy astray, they eventually arrange to meet but once face to face with the true 'Jake' Ivy doesn't lose face, but she does later lose her life...

Confused, Sasha recalls her actions and steps as she makes the brutal discovery, but she doesn't expect a surprise discovery that will shock her even more, just how well does she know the person she's close to most?

Xavier, Sasha and Ivys best friend Gwen s lives all change forever with Ivy scarred on their brains forever...

Running away, dead body hiding and being hunted down by someone, this thriller mystery book doesn't let up on twists and turns at any point. I was shocked at the relationships in the end and would've liked to have seen a more sinister ending but the dangers of online chatting and unknown real identities provided a final twist I enjoyed surrounding the anonymity that can provide us with the most danger of all. The split perspective from Xavier and Sashas points of view was good and the perspective where we could guess whom it is and it's not stayed first, but Xavier did feel a bit of a blank character as apart from his being a jock and depressed we didn't get more about whom he is apart from Sasha day repeatedly he's calm and kind.

Prepare to lose your trust in those your reading about!

Your Turn To Die by Sue Wallman

Staying in Roeshot house as she does every year with her mum and her sisters, this year it's all change. Here dad is with his new girlfriend while her Mum is with Steve, her auntie has a new partner and her young cousin is more ill than she first imagined.

The normal trio of her, her cousin Ivy and their mutual friend Jacob however is the same but with the addition of friend Tatum a girl a year older than them whom seems to hate Roeshot house since the beginning of their stay. There's also Ivy's sister, Poppy whose only eight but in a bad health way as she rarely eats her food and picks at certain things instead, she seems to be anorexic or at least have EDNOS.

However, they learn of Alice a local elderly lady who had a deathbed confession, that she killed her sister Rose and buried her at her house. Roeshot house.

Freaked by the news the teens set about investigating themselves into the matter and find out the predictions they made before, may just be about to come true...

Tatum is a film student, she records snippets of their investigation throughout but as strange things to do with their predictions swirl in Leah's mind, she starts to doubt Tatum and her wanting action to happen, as well as doubting her mum's partner Steve needing to look into more evidence he just may have...

Another great read from Sue once again, though this one wasn't as loud in the action as the previous ones where more drama and strange plots lied, the simple twists and turns as well as an old murder still have it a thrilling and chilling edge enough to have you gripped!

Charlotte Says by Alex Bell

Jemima or Miss Black arrives at a school to be an assistant alongside Miss Grayson, a strict woman whom she doesn't end up getting along with on the Isle of Skye for girls who've been involved in crime and it's a big change to her past experience in London of holding séances alongside her mother, she has just suffered the loss of her mother in a fire.

Back there in London after a séance to contact a man's dead daughter, Vanessa whom had the dolls herself too. The man became her mother's husband and then starts abusing the pair in an alarming way...

Her old friend Henry who loves her is there for her along with his dog Murphy. They are close and he calls her Mim, the only person who does.

Then from her old school Whiteladies, Vanessa's frozen Charlotte dolls are sent to her in a box carved with her name and inside the dolls are shattered porcelain in places. Girl's start dying Charlotte plays games about harm and death after the myth is she died by freezing hence the dolls name. Upon talking to a doll they will start to call their new owner mother.
Which soon becomes the girls at this school, then Jemima herself gets infected with the frozen Charlotte's voice and many bad things begin to happen.

The Frozen Charlotte's love to play the murder game...

This book was a great sequel with a tension building last quarter. It was creepy, horrifying and a great teen horror book set to scare us all!

I Stop Somewhere by T. E. Carter

Ellie loves Caleb but one night can change everything.

Ellie just wanted to blend in at school, fourteen is a hard age after all and so Kate, a neighbour who's older helps her by cutting her hair and sharing clothes as well as learning that Ellie later meets Caleb, brother of Noah a boy she knew. Only when she warns Ellie to be careful does something seem odd.

Told through a split time narrative from Ellie's point of view flicking between past events up to now, do we begin to realise Ellie may have wanted a boyfriend but Caleb always seemed more a possessive predator at times despite odd sweet moments when you don't know someone you should be careful how much you trust them...

Because when #WheresEllieFrias gets created and printed onto flyers by other victims of rape, just how long is it till secrets out?

This book is a harrowing read about rape, murder and the fight for justice and closure for many. Ellie is a typical girl who thought she was falling in love only to fall victim to rape and murder telling her story as she can't pass on without closure for not just herself but her father who's quite rightly upset over her sudden disappearance. It may be saddening for the most part but the novel carries an important message about trust and reading people which is a warning to us all.

Between The Lies by Cathy MacPhail

Abbie is the outsider at school, relatively new to the school.

When Judith or Jude disappears suddenly and doesn't return home, her parents worry and the school is buzzing with talk of what could've happened to her. Andrea, Tracey and Belinda, her so called best friends keeps posting on social media messages they hope Judith will see.

Then comes a huge shock development, Abbie gets a text, from Jude herself saying she wants to come home.

Nobody understands why she contacted Abbie the outcast student she hasn't ever talked to let alone swap numbers with.

But that's not it, when a shocking twist revelation comes out everyone turns their respect for Abbie and her campaigning to find Jude to hatred at what she's accused of, keeping Jude away deliberately.

Then texts from an Unknown number start sending Abbie wild with worry and paranoia, no one will help her and no one will believe she's in danger.

Don't trust your so called friends, they just might hold the answers in this case...

Cathy can't half write amazing mysteries and thrillers they are always super and never fail to deliver. I was hooked on this book and finished it in two hours it was that gripping. There's plenty of twists to keep you guessing and packed full of action its unput down able!

The Escape by C. L. Taylor

Jo is late leaving her student support officer job at university to pick up her daughter, Elise when a strange woman walks up wanting a lift, has Elise's glove and a creepy exchange, chilling for Jo takes place as Paula knows her family and says Jo's husband Max whom works as an investigative journalist, will know more.

Jo already suffers with agoraphobia and seems to have some form of anxiety and panic attacks related to that also after she lost a previous pregnancy of a baby boy. She obviously feels over protective of her daughter, a natural mother's instinct but on a much severer level to others normally.

Paula, knows Max as Martin and confronts him at one point about him taking something which wasn't his and Paula wants it back.

She'll destroy his family to do so.

The book is gripping, gritty, suspenseful and engaging enough for you to devour it in one sitting as I have done!

Towards the end as missing person enquiries ensue, all I can say is to watch out as all the lies and mislaid trust become obvious as links are made. The book shows just how scary it is to realise  around you aren't as you seem to think.

C. L. Taylor hasn't disappointed me yet, I have all her work up to now as well and they just are the best crime, mystery thrillers you could wish for.
