A Kitten Called Holly by Helen Peters

Jasmine and Tom in this book find a cat and her new born kittens on the farm. However as the mother rejects one kitten, Jasmine takes her on to save her and soon becomes attached to her but when school bully Bella is after a new pet, Jasmine fears for her beloved Holly as the kitten faces going to her after some antics happen!

The book once again alike Helen's other books does deal with the mention of death a few times and so again I say this is one for older readers. It was another fun packed read about animals focusing mainly on cats which Animal Ark fans will enjoy.

Toto The Ninja Cat And The Great Snake Escape Book 1 By Dermot O'Leary

In this book we meet Toto, a blind cat who's also a ninja with her moves and her brother Silver who are stray cats from Italy adopted into a new family.

They meet Catface, who's a cat they assume despite appearances...

They must help a love struck snake get back to the safety of his enclosure after going on the loose however a more sweet reason lies in his tale as to why he escaped in the first place!

A book about an animal where all isn't as it seems and Toto is a brave fearless cat not giving up on what she can and can't do. A new series packed with action and great conflicts they come across with fellow animal friends and foes!

Cat's Cafe by Matt Tarpley

In this comic based around the lives of animals who interact daily with each other at Cats Café, we see how mental health is the base line and how anxiety, stress, lack of self love etc all effect the adorable animals and how they help build each other up and become friends with each other.

A book showing how a little kindness can go a long loving way I relate most to the anxious bunny especially on the anxiety reducing headphones part, that's totally me!

Millie has a female cat called Dave and best friend Lauren. She lives with her mum and her boyfriend Gary who's a clean freak and loves his robot hoover.

Since staying at her dads her Instagram posts get more hits and lauren encourages her to star her own vlog. So in her granddad's shed, she starts to vlog there while Lauren's parents constantly argue and Millie gets mean comments on her vlogs the girls face some tough times.

Bradley and her kiss he's a bit nerdy and into science etc but also vlogs and is great with a good following on his channel but a new guy Danny joins the school too...

Millie is a typical modern day teen loving YouTube and feeling judged a lot. Typical modern day tropes are in this book all the way through from bullying online, friendship, love, school and dealing with parents dating too! It was fun to read about Dave the wild girl cat too if you like Emma Moss's Girl's Can Vlog series this book is for you!

Super Cat VS The Chip Thief by Jeanne Willis

Tiger is an ordinary cat and boring to James's dismay. However when James returns from school one day he discovers that Tiger can suddenly talk in multiple languages, move swiftly despite his previous slow and pudgy nature and wants to make adventures happen inspired by Jake's comic book collection superhero as has fashioned his own costume to fight crime in all thanks to the lick of a niffy old sock!

As the local chip price soars and everywhere potatoes are being destroyed by bugs, its up to this new duo to fight back against their comic book enemy Count Backwards as they face the issue together!

Fast action, fun and hilarious throughout this duo was a delight to read about, kids will love them and probably wish their pets would come to life too!

Catdoodles by Akiko Masuda

This book is beautiful, with many types of cats drawn and tips on how to create them yourself too.
Each page is full of colourful cats which all vary showing the versatility on how to create your own types of cats. From doodles, to rainbow cats covering the page, this book shows you them all.

The book is suitable for any age and any capability of drawing talent from young children to adults, these cats are all simple doodles and we can all manage a cat doodle with this book if you're unsure how to!

Animal Ark 1: Kitten Rescue by Lucy Daniels

I am so excited for this book. As a young child reading about animals was my favourite thing besides the Rainbow Magic fairy book series. Animal Ark ran for years as I was born and growing up when theybfirst stars being published and my cousins devoured them all too. Now, they are being relaunched with whole new stories for a new generation of animal loving readers and I couldn't be more thrilled!

Amelia is the new girl to the area with her mum As they move in with grandma. However Amelia meets Mandy on her way to university as she stops her running over a dog. After going to see Animal Ark vets, she also meets Sam the owner of the puppy whom also needs a lot of training and Sam and her team up but they also discover a group of kittens thanks to Mac the dog!

As they care for them with advice from the vets they set off to trace their mother and also find homes for all the newborns too.

These new book evidently bridge the gap between Many Hope in the new adult books and her old child self in the children's books from the 90's. I couldn't be happier for the series return, still short sweet and generally upbeat aswell as raising awareness for how to care for pets they are perfect for their target age of children as guestbook learn whilst enjoying the story.
Still classic upbeat, energetic and inspiring reads!

The Cat Who Ate Christmas by Lil Chase & Thomas Docherty

Jingles the cat causes mayhem for his family in this delightful short children's book. Lily, Rose and Alex all look forward to Christmas but their crafty kitty knocks over the tree, scoffs the Christmas dinner and opens the presents! Naturally in turn, all the family are angry at his actions but still love him and so head off to buy him his favourite treats and track him down to bring him home again!

A short sweet book, with charming illustrations, everyone will fall in love with Jingles!

Optimists Die First by Susin Nielsen

Petula is a sixteen year old pessimist whom suffers from panic attacks. She believes she is a realist and nothing good comes from being an optimist. She attends YART which is a youth creative art group and counselling. She also fears germs and accidents, death and generally, life and any catastrophe that could entail. Her sister Maxine died and her mum has a small army of cats to find forever homes for.

I loved the cats being named after book characters!

Petula then meets wannabe director Jacob, he has a bionic arm and also attends counselling. We also learn that Petula blames herself for the death of her younger sister, Maxine who was three and even years on now, can't forgive herself for what happened. Petula feels like she needs to keep herself safe and alive as she's here not Maxine as well and seeing how life has changed and the atmosphere the family skirt around the issue in the room with them still unattended too by proper communication. She soon learns from having to work with Jacob on a school project, the tragedy around the loss of his lower arm and subsequently that he feels built he lived and not his two best friends.

In her YART group, there is a right bunch of amazing characters which each were unique and enjoyable. I really love the evolvement of this in a book as it is used in schools or at least it was when I went to my high school nearly ten years ago now.
I enjoyed the time in the group and made a beautiful papier mache mask I still own and a folder of sketches too. It helped me through high school and even though Petula doesn't allow herself to at first enjoy it. She does and the people along with the situation too as they eventually become friends through some cool adventures.

The book deals well with trust issues and friendships as well as loss and love of course. It shows the good and bad of situations quite literally but with hilarity it places to keep it a gripping read. Thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review it for them!

The Great Cat Cafe Rescue by Katrina Charman

In honour of Valentine's day today, I have reviewed this lovely animal themed children's book set around the time of Valentine's day. This book was sent to me kindly by the publishers for review.

Isla's mum runs Abbey Park Vets as well as them owning a Cat cafe called Poppy's place after their cat. Tilda is Isla's sister who helps out and runs the website whilst Isla writes most of the blog posts for it. Milo is their younger brother who loves his cat Dynamo to pieces, he is also hard of hearing and uses a hearing aid to help him. This is a great feature purely because it can help children understand some disabilities easier and more clearly from an early age.

In this book, which is the third in the series so far, the cafe is struggling with rehoming the cats and finding them their 'forever homes'. Isla has the idea to have a 'Great cat-tacular event and advertise all the cats they have available to adopt in order to hopefully find them long term loving homes.
Isla also has her friends to help her plan the event when they're not preoccupied thinking of the upcoming Valentine's disco at school.
After an accident at the cafe which is the conservatory attached to their home, plans are put on hold and a cat, Milo's favourite, Dynamo, has gone missing.
Will the cat-tacular be able to go ahead and will they make the disco? One thing's for sure, they have an action packed Valentine's day.
I don't want to spoil the book, so you'll have to read it to find out what happens yourself, but I enjoyed it and it made me reminisce on when I was younger and read Lucy Daniels, Anna Wilson and Linda Chapman animal themed books.

The book also features simple yet detailed sketches to help the book come to life and will stimulate children's imagination and keep them engaged. The story flows very well and is full of action and animals. It also entertains the idea of young relationships becoming more than friendships, the girls are pre-teens by around a year, but two of the girls have dates to the disco. It shows how each young person feels at the age when feelings start to change as you enter the beginning of your teenage years.
