Baby Aliens Got My Teacher by Pamela Butchart

In the first in the Izzy series, we see how Izzy, Jodi and Zach befriend Maisie and they team up against their teacher as she acts so out of sorts they believe she's been taken over by aliens thanks to her new gifted teddy bear!

It was a short and hilarious story where even though you could see what was actually happening, it was amazing the way the children blew the situation up out of proportion!

Super Cat VS The Chip Thief by Jeanne Willis

Tiger is an ordinary cat and boring to James's dismay. However when James returns from school one day he discovers that Tiger can suddenly talk in multiple languages, move swiftly despite his previous slow and pudgy nature and wants to make adventures happen inspired by Jake's comic book collection superhero as has fashioned his own costume to fight crime in all thanks to the lick of a niffy old sock!

As the local chip price soars and everywhere potatoes are being destroyed by bugs, its up to this new duo to fight back against their comic book enemy Count Backwards as they face the issue together!

Fast action, fun and hilarious throughout this duo was a delight to read about, kids will love them and probably wish their pets would come to life too!

My Hamster Is A Genius by Dave Lowe

In this book we meet Ben whom wants an exciting pet only to get a hamster, not so thrilling to him. Calling his hamster Stinkybottom, which his hamster doesn't like much!

That is until his hamster starts answering when he speaks his maths sums out loud! His hamster starts doing his homework and suddenly he is accused of cheating at school.

Facing a maths test thanks to his dad making a bet with his maths teacher, he needs to figure out a way to either get smart quick or sneak in his hamster!

This is a hilarious short tale and extremely fun drawings to help annotate the story throughout. Kids will love this book and be imagining or dreaming that their pets could be doing crazy amazing things too!

Boy Meets Hamster by Birdie Milano

Dylan is forced to go on one of the newspaper £9.50 holiday deals to a caravan park in Cornwall along with him is his best friend too and once they get to the caravan park it soon becomes clear they're in for an interesting time from oldie Elviss to dancing hamsters, not forgetting the cute boy, Jayden next door.

However after a lot of incidents Jayden starts to come across as more of a nightmare as the cracks start to show in his perfect image Dylan see's him as leading him to a change of thoughts after an incident at the swimming pool...

Only as he and his mate start to partake in the crazy so called fun of the park, he finds that Nibbles the crazy hamster may not be as bad as he thought right away and that his brother Jude needs protecting from bullying Jayden's brother, Troy a little terror who wreaks more havoc than Dylan does only to people and not the actual holiday park!

I loved this book it has been one of the funniest books I've read whilst also having and LGBT edge as our main characters are gay and having to deal with coming out, finding love and dealing with homophobic language from bullies.

Dancing Over The Hill by Cathy Hopkins

Cait and Matt are a middle aged couple whom for them, life has settled into the mundane same old of work, particular clubs they're involved separately in, children who've flown the nest and moved away and meeting up with friends and family when they can and if they're still actually around to meet up with.

For Cait, she remembers their younger days and wishes for those to be how they are with each other now, if only. So when Lorna and Deb's her two closest friends pick up on Matt's behaviour alike Cait they're all equally surprised to learn of him being made redundant suddenly.

For Cait though, an old flame, first love Tom Lewis shows up on Facebook wanting to friend her and suddenly Cait is torn between her life now or Tom's way of 'adventure calling' life to choose from.

This is a rather push and pull story of how need and want but lack of communication makes a relationship suffer and especially in the case of Cait and Matt and the pair both start getting on top of each other alone in their house together a lot as the story plays out. I was happy however with how the plotline did work out and that their bond did strengthen after what happened and really found myself enjoying this book and felt sad when it ended!

Another great work by Cathy, after reading her all my teen life and now in adulthood too, it's great to see her work in adult fiction is as strong as her teen and children's fiction is too.

Big Bones by Laura Dockrill

BB or Bluebelle, loves food but the trouble is her weight is what she's judged on by the doctors who examine her after a severe asthma attack and not her happiness. Unlike her sister Dove, a slim girl and opposite of Bluebelle who doesn't have to watch her weight at all.

Bluebelle makes a deal with her mum to keep the food diary her doctors request for six weeks over the holidays, so long as she can leave school and get a job. Striking a deal with her mum she starts her diary but will it work or make things worse?

Along the way her dad tries to win back their mum, Alicia at Planet Coffee becomes more bearable to be around surprisingly and Camille, Bluebelle's best friend endures her own summer holiday job before school resumes after they get their dreaded exam results!

The book tackles the issues of how we look at food, body image and self in a critical or loving way as society seems to swing from one extreme to another in view's mostly and this book shows how Bluebelle has a great sense of self not letting herself be brought down by any comments about her look or weight proving what a great main character she is as a happy, bold, bigger girl which is great!

The solution to your lazy procrastination days is here in a book filled with ways to get you doing your tasks and having them done asap. From your hair, make-up, exercise, dealing with people in any way at there's a friendly paragraph of advice set to help you out and feel less at sea with your issues!
This book speaks to us like a girl friend would do in giving us secrets and advice with the language being humorous and full of heart to push us forward and get that stuff done!

My Sister's Wedding by Vicky Pattison

Becky is settled in a relationship with Daniel and has been since university but knows now their amazingly weird but wonderful engagement has occurred it's a time bomb until their families meet. Daniel is set to inherit a lot and has a rich upbringing whilst her family are of a less well of nature...

Her sister Lizzie however, is twenty three and out getting drunk most nights whilst being poor and struggling to get by as well as waking up in random bars.

When their families finally meet, a supposed incident occurs making Lizzie become seen as wilder and more dangerous under the influence of alcohol which is only the start of issues to come as newspaper stories and scheming Nicole Becky's future sister in law all play their part and have their say and judgement on the impending wedding.

Becky and Lizzie also can't believe it when their long vanished mum suddenly reappears and isn't to be taken at face value after she walked out on them she has heard how well off Daniel's family is and thinks all can be forgiven for the future, only Becky's not having it one bit but as Daniel hides a secret Lizzie overhears a little about things begin to sour, until Becky finds something on his phone that creates a whole new load of mess for them to deal with...

I loved this book, Vicky has some great ideas in her as every book by her has made me feel like I get her more as in how she speaks and others like her as she's so fun and out there bubbly. This book is a heartfelt one with high as lows as you can see from before, I did like it but nothing can beat All That Glitters in my mind!

It's also alike to Jill Mansell's, You and Me, Always if you enjoyed that pick this one up!

Curves, Kisses and Chocolate Ice Cream by Sue Watson

Dani is an hilarious approaching forty year old who works with Marco a great cake maker unfortunately for her as she battles to lose weight throughout this book.

Dani returned to Appledore in Devon after fleeing to London years before as her nineteen year old self was broken hearted by the cad, Jude she was in love with.

The cafe she works in is alive with characters of all ages and Karla her beat friend is also staying with her right now which is great as she spurs her on in now deteriorating from her diet plans to be slim and trim by her birthday as she dreams of being!

As Dani battles the gym environment quite literally head on, am array of catastrophes in there result in Chris, a member of staff getting to know her rather well. He offers her personal training on the deal she doesn't quit and works with him for twelve weeks, she agrees and her life starts to change.

Through the book, we learn of Dani's insecurities being spurred on by her alcoholic mum who existed solely on a gin diet, calling Dani fat and not feeding her properly either. Her dad had left her mum and so she was heartbroken as a young child growing up in a tough situation all round as she was bullied at school too.

As her birthday approaches, a disastrous newspaper article printed,,she finds Jude reappearing in her life as well as Alex, a regular gym bunny appearing too close to Chris leaving her a little heartbroken until her birthday wish which may come true...

I devoured this book quicker than Dani could all her ice creams for sure I was hooked, hilarious and Miranda style Dani was a joy to read about and her story is so funny but probably relatable to some girls out there who read this book. Light hearted and beach perfect this is a summer read you definitely need!

I Hate MySelfie by Shane Dawson

Shane is someone whom you either love or hate it seems.
I personally find his humour mostly funny and would never hate on him even if at times something is so close to the knuckle I hold my breath that he said or wrote it!

Anyway, the first of his two books so far has been a great read which made me glad to finally read it! Talking of life in high school and being the awkward kid he was because of his appearance and the way he could come out with witty remarks and empathise with others he knew like him shows Shane wouldn't back down and take it.

His tales of the future talk of karma kicking back at one of his main bullies, a cheerleader and see how he rose up from her level of low treatment of others to times of discovering who you are and your sexuality.

He talks touchingly of his Grandma and how her passing effected him, his mom and his brothers, I am sure Shane has a lot of her in him with their shared humour being as it was.

He opens the discussion about his eating habits and how later on in life it still caused him issues too which was great to read, not many people would be confident enough to enlighten others to how situations like that can go but Shane nailed it.

A raw look into the deepest stories of Shane's life which prove life can give you lemons you can turn to sweet lemonade, just persevere kids, it gets better after all!

How To Be A Bawse by Lilly Singh

Lilly has written about how to be a bawse by essentially conquering a lot of stairs to get up there to your dreams and making it happen.

She has amusing but relevant life lessons from Nintendo on never giving up, keep chasing and persevere in life to one day make the progress you want.

She includes many stories about meeting celebrity's she's a fan of and filling a day with everything to conk you straight out at night and get restful and fulfilling sleep to allow you to be a bawse tomorrow too.

Filled with lots of facts I didn't know about her like, she has a psychology degree, was an Indian dance company owner she truly can teach us to take control of our lives and conquer our mind and stop negativity and allow ourselves some hope that we can get to where we want to be.

It Gets Worse by Shane Dawson

Based on his life and back for a second book, with a few more hard hitting life issues thrown in besides his unique wit Shane certainly can entertain and outrage in one go.

In a good way!

He talks once again openly about his family, friends, potential boyfriends, his first girlfriend and of course haters. His story's from the paranormal encounter of a good kind to his first experience with a dating app which of course, leads to trouble. He expresses his issues with food once again only this time raising awareness of males having bulima which is rarely touched upon in books and I commend him for talking openly about it, hopefully it can help someone out there who picks up It Gets Worse someday.

His story's are so shocking it's like nothing you can even hope to make up and I wouldn't want to try and beat Shane's hilarious tales. Unlike the first book, his mum kindly adds a chapter to close off the book in which she describes her pride and surprise in her son as well as her first hater encounter in real life!

A truly fun read by a guy that's been through a whirlwind of things.

The Best Medicine by Christine Hamill

Philip is a twelve year old wannabe comedian. His best friend Ang at school knows he gets targeted by The Yeti, as he calls his bully as well as Ang knowing about Lucy, the girl he likes.

However, when Philips mum starts acting strangely and allowing him to have baked cakes and watch all the Harry Hill he wants to, he starts to realise something is different.

Which is when his mum friend Susie starts coming round more as his mum breaks down and reveals she has breast cancer and faces treatment. Philip is shocked and can't believe it, he writes more letters to Harry Hill with all his issues and doesn't give up.

Then when his mum meets others with cancer, the Harry Hill appreciation society is created as the patients all take off their wigs and also Philip shaves his head to fit in and make his mum feel less alone.

Then something amazing happens and Harry Hill gains a protégée for a performance which makes a dream come true!

I have had relatives close to me suffer with cancer unfortunately and this book is an amazing unique twist on how an idol can keep spirits alive in the face of the unknown to come.

Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett

Working in a museum over summer, Bailey meets Porter. At first she can't stand him but soon they become a really cute couple. Not to mention they bond over some horrific past incidents, for Bailey she was shot and her mum divorced her dad and moved away. Whilst for Porter, he saved his dad from a great white shark despite it getting his fathers arm, he survived.

There's also the added mystery of Bailey using her nickname, Mink online to chat to a person called Alex. Despite never having met face to face, Bailey wants to know them in real life.
She soon does though!

It was predictable with the storyline and a retelling of other stories together. Despite that it was well written and enjoyable just not overly exciting as hyped it got.

Waiting For Callback by Perdita & Honor Cargill

In this book, we follow the journey of Elektra Ophelia as she signs up with an acting agency and experiences her normal teen life at school and drama club whilst also attending many auditions for varying roles of interest.

Each role Elektra gets put forward for is very different to say the least!

From squirrel voicing to playing a carrot on an advert, the book has hilarious highs then the usual teenage larks come in to play.
From a best friend argument to kissing a boy at a party and then her mum later seeing them together! The book keeps you entertained and is a great read for any other fifteen year old girl like Elektra.
