My Messed-Up Life by Susin Nielsen

In this book we meet Violet who's struggling to adapt along with her younger sister Rosie to life without their dad at home after he was caught cheating on their mum and left them for her, as well as his new twins.

To make it worse her mum then tries dating ending up with a guy called Dudley Wiener, of all names. Convinced he's not right for her mum she sets her mind on splitting them up and finding George Clooney her mum's celebrity crush whom she met once.

Along with a fun ridiculous escapade hardly believable this was a short but still entertaining read about single parents and dating again. We also see Violet rebuilding her relationship with her father after a rather harsh incident takes place.

Fairytale Beginnings by Holly Martin

Arriving at Clover's rest after breaking down nearby, Milly is ready to help Cameron at his newly inherited castle in how to manage it and run it in the future.

Yet she never thought she could fall for him until the two become entangled in a Disney style rush of love and passion until his PA Olivia arrives and tries to steal him away!

The Grey Lady myth/legend about the heir's to the castle as told by two local kindly ladies who set about reuniting the pair and getting Olivia out of the way and possibly her job too...

This is a sugar sweet romance if you like Disney, you will love this tale. I really enjoyed Milly and Cameron as characters, the chemistry was there and I could imagine them being a modern prince and princess from Disney!

Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott

Stella lives with cystic fibrosis only as it worsens and her lung function plummets she needs a transplant fast.

She wishes she could be with her best friends in Cabo.

Also in the hospital is Poe her gay friend and new boy, Will who wants to be living the end of his life not wasting time on a hospital trial that may extend his life as he fights a bacterial infections that's resistant to antibiotics.

Stella and Will keep meeting and seeing each other only getting closer and closer and one cough between the pair could spread infection and kill them...

So as the pair communicate by Skype, phone and partial contact, maybe Will can have some faith this times drug trial might work and Stella can move on from her family's trauma but as she fights an infection, Poe prepares to finally visit his family and Will awaits news of his trial drug, who will be left alive?

I can't wait for the film this year after reading this and loving it! The main two characters have an instant connection that is super and beyond their illness, the story was intriguing and led us to hope the pair survived if not end up together as we'd hope!

The Midnight Sun by Trish Cook

Suffering from a severe illness called XP, Katie is refined to her and her dad's house all day while the sun is up or she could get severely ill with cancer of the skin and die, just from exposure.

But when the sun's down she comes out of their house and plays her guitar on the local train platform, where she finally meets Charlie, the guy she sees pass by her house every day, object of her lust and affection's.

So when the pair start meeting up at night, with the help of her friend Morgan setting it up, she starts to experience life like other teenagers do.

It was a really beautiful story about a girl who just wants to live her life they way teens passing her by literally can. She comes into her own discovering what lies outside her house and we can see how much it changes her life as she finds love and friendship and the wonders of the world around her suddenly make themselves more known to her.

It's About Love by Steve Camden

Luke meets Leia in his media class where teacher Noah, was once in a film he wrote himself. As Luke and Leia work together, their world's collide as Luke's brother Marc gets released from prison after he caused ABH, Like finds himself questioning whom he truly is after a few brushes with fights himself and discovering why Leia suddenly goes quiet on him after they'd been getting along so well.

It was quite slow in places but the drama about violence and aggressive behaviour from siblings was intriguing to see how it influenced their families and how it impacted them. It could be realistic for people to read about I'm certain but despite that the two main characters seemed inevitable to come together due to their names and Star Wars link. Unexpectedly great and refreshing young adult fiction.

Love, Hate and Other Filters by Samira Ahmed

In this book Maya is an aspiring filmmaker and dreams of attending NYU but her traditional Muslim Indian parents don't approve. They dream of her marrying and staying at home and being a good girl as they dream.

However, after her dream seems within reach, an act of terrorism causes more violence in her life and not just to the public as she and her family face physical and verbal abuse.

She also has to battle with a crush on Phil she's harboured for years but as the pair grow closer and closer, things escalate till the future seems too hazy to hope for together...

The book looks at the future of a hopeful student but as she goes against all her strict parents wishes whilst she experiences love but also a terrorist attack that directly affects her life and unfortunately this is all too true an occurrence. It was a real book with deep issues that many people can relate to.

From Twinkle, With Love by Sandhya Menon

Twinkle fancies Neil so when she starts getting emails signed off from N and admirer she lokes to believe they're from him.

However, as she works with Sahil on a film project after he approached her, she finds herself realising Sahil isn't so bad, he's helped her when Hannah the mean girl makes a jibe at her and notices when her friend Maddie isn't sticking up for her.

The pair work on a film together and hope to enter it into a film festival as their chance of making it as director and producer.

The book deals with family issues, friendship woes, LGBTQ issues and relationships as well as the worry about does he/she like me which is a common YA trope. Twinkle's perspective is made up of written letters whilst Sahil features with blog posts and texts to his friends which show his feelings in their full glory. The final quarter of the book was thrilling to see what happened to all of the relationships in Twinkle's life and I particularly enjoyed a Romeo and Juliet style scene!

It Only Happens In The Movies by Holly Bourne

Audrey meets Harry when she starts working at upmarket cinema Flicker. Audrey is just getting over her heartbreak by ex Milo after he started dating Courtney despite having sex, really badly with Audrey as they reached their six month anniversary and heartlessly dumped her.

It doesn't help matters when her best friend Leroy is all loved up with his boyfriend Ian too. She also proceeded to shut out her girl friends Charlie, Alice and Becky as at home her mum's divorce has led her to keep having breakdowns where she gets violent and suicidal thoughts. She also struggles to juggle work, school and her Mum as UCAS dates loom ahead too along with her dad wanting their house sold too.

Working at Flicker and meeting Harry, she plays a zombie bride to flirty Harry in his film he's making and naturally the pair get closer but she still doubts boys and doesn't want to fall in love again.

Love isn't a choice she realises as her dad chose to move on from her Mum and get her step mum pregnant as he fell out of love with her mum.

But can she and Harry successfully be more than friends and have their own movie fairy tale romance?

Holly writes great, gripping fiction for teens and this one was so unique, there's zombies and love as well as heartbreak, friendship drama but not too different from the norm of romance as you see from above hard topics such as sex, divorce and mental health are deeply rooted into the novel and prove that everything can all happen at once but how we choose to handle it all can get to anyone and be too much to handle. Harry reminded me of Augustus from The Fault In Our Stars at times and was a fun character to read about while Audrey seemed so strong and able but knew when she needed to reconnect with the  world she'd been shutting out for so long.

You and Me, Always by Jill Mansell

Since Alice's mum passed away of cancer when she was little, Coral her mum's best friend brought her up alongside her now sadly dead husband, Nick.

Alice's mum Jo had written her a series of letters to reach her on set birthday's only this year in the final one for her twenty fifth, the love of her mum's life's surname is finally mentioned as the bracelet he gave her mum is now left to Alice.

Alice and her friend Patsy along with her younger brother, Dan care for Alice and don't want her to get hurt but are so happy for her when he does respond to Alice's letter and comes to meet her, Declan is as thrilled to meet them all as he was to meet her mum years ago. He also catches the eye of Coral who can't believe it's a real crush she's feeling and goes into denial but she can't fight those feelings...

There's also the factor that by chance, Alice is dating Eddie Tessler a film star. Yet when media get hold of her story and her father sells his lies they end up involved in a whole new load of drama.

It was so so so much better than I anticipated, having struggled to get into this book I really struggled on and loved it by the end. The characters are so quirky, the places chaotic or quaint in description as well as the storylines in the book being so explosive with drama, lies and betrayal.

This Is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith

Communicating by email after pure chance of a wrong email addressed typed, Ellie meet Graham that she lives in Maine and he California with a pet pig, Wilbur.

So when Ellie and Quinn work in a local ice cream shop whilst a film is being made locally with heartthrob actor Graham Larkin coming. He is trying to find Ellie only accidentally dates Quinn by accident after she spilled ice cream on her shirt at work and borrowed Ellie's. After a lot of doubt from Ellie about dating him things cool off until she hatches a plan to find her could be president father to see if he will welcome her and help her future at Harvard. Graham, wanting to help borrow a boat to find her dad.

The relationship between the two is tricky as it would be when one of you is so popular but they both worked really well before when they were emailing so after the shock don't adapt as naturally people would struggle with yet their happiness that comes when they are together proves they have something between them!

Jessica Darling's It List by Megan McCafferty

Starting high school is a big step, especially if you want to be popular like your sister was!

For Jess, her sister Bethany guides her with a list of things to accomplish to have a great school experience, she needs to choose a great boyfriend, join cheer group and make the right friends.

However, her best friend Bridget soon becomes everything the list needs, getting on cheer team, bagging a boyfriend and fitting straight in while Jessica realises that maybe being herself is best?

After all Jess makes cheer team but not as it seems, makes friends and loses them in some ways and learns of growing apart as well as having enough best friend boyfriend drama to do without boy drama of her own!

There's also the fact that she's in the wrong elective and takes woodshop with eleven boys and she's the only girl. Still, it means she meets Aleck, Marcus as he's really known.

Yet as Jessica's sister confides in her a huge secret to do with school, Jess realises she maybe doesn't have it as bad as she thinks.
